Meet the Team

Tyson Williamson, LEED AP - President

Growing up in Orem, Utah,
Tyson Williamson's knowledge and passion for construction began at the early age of 14 laying tile on a condominium project (some would consider it slave labor). He began to find interest in sustainable construction this last summer as he worked on a 280 million dollar LEED Silver project in LA. Recently he passed the LEED AP exam and competed with the 2nd place in nationals BYU LEED team. Tyson desires to continue his learning and participation in the green sector with the intent of benefiting others, the environment, and the industry.

Matt Vaughn, LEED AP -
Vice President

I’ve been studying green building for two years and I feel it’s just a smarter way to build. A year ago I became a LEED AP. I helped design BYU’s LEED class and was a TA. I’m currently in charge of LEED certifying an existing building in Salt Lake. This summer, I’ll finish the curriculum for my new company, which will help prepare construction and architectural firms to take the LEED AP exams and to be more educated about green building. More than anything, this is something we believe in, so we're confident that we'll work hard as a presidency.

Andrew Lynes -
Secretary

Andrew grew up in the state of Washington where he first gained his love for the world in which he lives and all its possibilities. He has worked most of his life outside. After some time in the CM program at BYU he became interested in a new wave of construction known as sustainable construction. Since then he has learned many things that will better the world we all live in. He recently competed on the LEED competition team and with his team was awarded second place. He will soon be a LEED Accredited professional. He loves to dance.

Pablo Medina -
Treasurer

Pablo Medina is native from southern California and grew up in San Diego California. Pablo is passionate about SB and has been actively involved in sustainable environmental groups since 2001 and was commissioned environmental student body representative at his High School. Since being accepted to the CM program he has been involved in helping the CM program become more aware of the importance of sustainable building practices. He is also consulting with a prominent developer to implement SB practices into future developments. He will be a LEED Accredited professional by June 2009.

As the presidency of BYU's Sustainable Build & Design club we are desirous to carry on the tradition of being the most influential and involved club in the Construction Management Program. The current presidency has done a wonderful job of designing a club that is not just something you can slap on a resume. It is an organization that helps us all learn and participate in the things that we are passionate about. Our main goal is to carry forth this tradition and bring our knowledge and experience to the table to help better things were we can.

Along with keeping the current activities that we are all familiar with and have enjoyed, we have other ideas that we will incorporate to strengthen the club and it's members as a whole.

Campus Involvement - Making a difference in lives of others outside of our program. Booths, flyers and campus activities.
LEED BD+C Catch Up Classes - As collegiate leaders in the Wasatch area, it is important to stay up to date. We will hold classes that will help the current LEED AP's get caught up on the new information.
Activities and Service - Have you ever imagined teaching a local sub-contractor why they need to be involved in the sustainable movement. What about sharing your information with the local community.
Continuing Education - LEED and the USGBC hold so much information for us to learn, but we will help expand everyone's knowledge and experience by learning other sustainable principles which aren't specifically mentioned in LEED.

We know that we will represent you well as your club presidency and that we will provide great opportunities for you to learn and get involved. Please take the time to talk to us if you have and questions or suggestions and make sure to VOTE. Each vote really does matter.

Thanks,

Your Future Sustainable Build & Design Club Presidency.
